It’s not called one of the happiest places on earth for nothing! We’re talking of course about Disney World, one of the largest and most popular theme parks on the planet.

Though there are many vacation locations and activities from which to choose all over the world, there is nothing quite like a memorable Disney vacation. They have attractions, rides, hotels galore, and so many things to see and do that you would have to take 10 trips to Disney World to see it all.

Before you go though, you do need to keep some tips in mind. Sure, it can be a great adventure for your whole family, but if you do not come prepared you might end up ruining your entire vacation.

The best time of the year to travel to Disney World is during their off season. This is usually around January to early February and also the summer. There will be less people, shorter lines to wait in, and fewer hassles in general, as well as the ability to see and experience more since there will be fewer people filling the parks.

Additionally, the weather will be very pleasant since the daytime temperatures in January and early February run around 65 to 70 degrees. Although the summer goes hot, that simply results in fewer crowds for you.

When taking a vacation to Disney World, consider staying in one of the hotels outside of, but close to, the parks. They real question is who will wear down first - the kids or their parents.

If you have a teenager, you may want to plan a day at Wet ‘n Wild, a water park they are sure to love. Magic Kingdom and Epcot are geared largely toward teenagers, so it is great to plan at least one day at each.

Finally for the adults, there is more than enough to do during the evenings. Pay a few extra dollars and hire a Disney-hired babysitter while you go out for a great dinner at one of the many famous restaurants. Or you could be bold and head to Pleasure Island to dance and laugh the night away.

Most people associate Tombstone, AZ with the famous gunfight that took place at the OK Corral. You can tour the OK Corral and learn about this gunslinger battle on location on your visit to Tombstone. There is a re-enactment of the 1881 gunfight at the OK Corral each day at 2:00 pm. You’ll see Doc Holliday and Wyatt, Virgil and Morgan Earp fight the McLaurys and Clantons there at the original location.

You will be shocked] at how just 30 seconds, three men died and two were wounded. Depending on your interest in history, you’ll probably find the tale behind the gunfight at the OK Corral even more interesting than the re-enactment.

The gunfight at the OK Corral involves a surprising level of historic disagreement. There is disagreement over who was at fault for the battle and why it took place. There is even discusion over the exact date of the shootout, although most historians date the event to October 26, 1881.

Two different Tombstone newspapers took different views in their support of the Clantons and the Earps. Both sides appeared to have a substantive amount of area support. There are so many twists to the tale of the feud between the Earps and the Clantons, it can easily become an intriguing topic of long-term study for anyone interested the famous gunfight.

Tombstone was a growing mining town during the 1880s, and it was one of the dangerous towns in the West during its hey-day. Lured by gold and silver, the town was overrun with an assortment of “bad guys,” including thieves, murderers, and card-sharks. There were hundreds of saloons and gambling houses in Tombstone, and surviving a day in Tombstone was considered an accomplishment.

On your visit to Tombstone, you’ll see original, historic buildings containing bullet holes displaying the town’s tougher days. Traditions Before the Marriage Ceremony

The traditional bridal trousseau or hope chest, began in France and came from the French word trousse, meaning bundle.

The popularity of a bride wearing a white wedding gown on her day of matrimony, began in France several hundred years ago. The custom of having fragrant flowers as decorations and bridal bouquets has also been popular for centuries. Each flower represents a unique and special meaning to the bride and groom, and especially fragrant flowers helped freshen things up a bit, before deodorant and perfumes were invented.

Wedding bells in France were usually heard in spring and summer when it was warm enough for everyone to bathe!

Still practiced in small villages today, is a traditional French custom, for the groom to call on his future bride at her home on the wedding day morning. As the groom escorts her to the wedding chappel, the town’s children stretch white ribbons across the road, which the bride cuts. Traditionally the groom usually walks his mother down the aisle just prior to the main wedding procession.

As the newlywed couple departs from the wedding site, laurel leaves are scattered in their path for them to walk over.

Wedding Invitations

A typical French wedding lasts all day and into the next. It starts with a civil ceremony at City Hall in the morning, and is followed by a religious ceremony, then a vin d’honneur (a small cocktail reception), followed by a 4 or 5-course meal, and then dancing. The dancing often starts between dinner courses, in order to give guests a chance to work up more of an appetite. Typically a French wedding doesn’t end until 3:00 or 4:00AM, or even later.

A guest in France can be invited to all, or only part of the wedding celebrations - even JUST dessert around midnight, and what is more is that they will not get offended by it! If you were to receive an invitation to a French wedding, it would probably say that you have been invited to the civil ceremony, the church ceremony, and the vin d’honneur (small cocktail reception)immediately following the church ceremony in a small room at the church. In a typical French ceremony, pretty much everyone is invited to all of this. However if you are worthy, you will also receive have another card inserted into your invitation that says something like you have been invited to the dinner, with dancing to follow. Hooray. Alternatively, you could receive a card that says that you have only been invited for dessert. Wipe-out.

The reasoning behind this is that everyone gets to participate in the couples joyous day, and the french family is not financially crippled because of feeding their entire arrondissement.

French Wedding Reception

A wedding toast is made to the newlyweds sometime during the traditional French wedding reception. Following this toast, they drink, as husband and wife, from a specially engraved, double handled goblet, usually a precious family heirloom passed down from generation to generation.

After the wedding reception, and even later into the couple’s wedding night, friends of the newlyweds might show up outside their window banging pots and pans, singing boisterous tunes. The groom is expected to invite them in for drinks and snacks.

Chateau du Clos Luce is where Da Vinci spent the last 3 years of his life. King Francois I invited him and he gifted Chateau du Clos Luce to Leonardo together with a pension of 700 golden crowns per annum.

“A well filled day gives a good sleep. A well filled life gives a peaceful death.” After only three years in Amboise, he died on May 2, 1519 and is buried in the Chapelle St. Hubert on the chateau’s grounds.

The chateau is open to tourists every day of the year except Christmas Day and New Years Day.

The King encouraged discussion, experimentation and much thought here. In this pretty chateau, he happily continued to paint, sketch, and work as an engineer, architect, and festival organizer for the court. Francois I found great pleasure in listening to Leonardo.

Da Vinci arrived at Amboise more than 60 years old with his disciple da Melzi and three paintings, Saint Anne, Saint John the Baptist which he finished at Clos Luce and the Mona Lisa.

It is situated on a quiet back street of Amboise, a town south of the Loire River between Blois and Tours about 2 hours from Paris by train. The village street has troglodyte houses opposite built into the limestone cliff face.

Da Vinci’s chateau is not large, but it is warm, inviting and personable. You get a sense of his life in the early 16th century as you wander unescorted throughout the sparsely decorated chateau. The chateau is surrounded by a magnificent treed park with a bubbling brook and peaceful pond with paddle boats available to hire. There is a tiny formal Renaissance garden in the courtyard behind the chateau with perfumed roses and clipped box hedges. It is peaceful, ideal for bird watching, conversation and quiet contemplation.

You can visit his study, salons, kitchen and bedrooms, the chapel and see frescoes painted by his pupils. Renaissance artifacts, tapestries, paintings, and furniture adorn the rooms which have high, timbered ceilings, huge fireplaces and well worn plank flooring.

There is a large four poster canopied bed in Leonardo’s bedroom swayed with gold and red fabric. Cherubs are carved into the dark wood on his bed.

It is most likely that the yellow salon bathed in light, functioned as studio space for Leonardo. It is most likely here that he finished his painting of John the Baptist.

The kitchen has a huge fire big enough to spit-roast a wild boar whole. In winter Leonardo would have warmed himself beside this fire.

His paintings and drawings are set out in the park of the chateau with giant models of the most spectacular machines he invented with voice-overs of Leonardo da Vinci and his disciple Melzi.

In a corner of the basement is an entrance to the underground passage connecting Chateau Amboise with Clos Luce, giving Francois I a direct link to the Leonardo’s home.

Downstairs in the basement, 40 models made by IBM from Leonardo’s drawings are displayed. These military, naval, hydraulic, mechanical, and aeronautical inventions demonstrate his sheer genius. Many of these designs were envisioned centuries before they were first constructed. Devices such as swing bridges, a machine gun, a flying machine and an automobile all show sound principles of design.
